South Africa's AngloGold plans to re-start operations in Peru

AngloGold Colombia’s Project Site Manager Aurelio GanozaLima, May 20 (ANDINA). South Africa’s mining company AngloGold Ashanti, the world's third biggest gold producer, announced that it is planning to re-start operations because the country houses interesting gold projects and provides a stable political climate for investors.

"We are holding preliminary talks with mining companies operating in Peru and seeking to speed up joint ventures. We can not say who we are meeting with, but we hope this will be clarified soon," Colombia’s Project Site Manager Aurelio Ganoza said.

In late 2005, AngloGold Ashanti announced it would stop exploring in Peru, after an investment of 20 million dollars and after five years of operation without finding a major deposit.

"We had some small projects, AngloGold Ashanti came to Peru when exploration reached a mature stage, but the company is weighing the possibility of resuming operations in Peru in the short term," he added.
